Administration:
Ms. Joanna Hughes, Chief School AdministratorIt is with great pride that I face my responsibilities each day as a Chief School Administrator. I am honored to lead a school in a community so committed to the success of children. The commitment to our community, the hard work of our children, the professionalism of our teachers, and the vision of our district are inspiring.
What is particularly rewarding is not only the successes outlined above, but the programs and the initiatives set forth this year for students who have not yet reached proficiency on their state examination or who may struggle academically. A small-group, direct-instruction program has begun in both math and reading to help students prepare and reach proficiency on their state assessment. Additionally, instructional support staff have been assigned to classrooms to help students who may be struggling with their daily coursework. These programs will help our school reach the vision of 100% proficiency.
Beyond academics, our students engage in a multitude of activities. Sports, Reading Olympics, Young Playwrights, Continental Math, and Student Leadership are to name a few. Fostering an environment where academics are demanding and activities are rewarding is certainly a challenging balance to find, especially as the demands of “No Child Left Behind” are increased each year.
In all of this, however, we are successful and our children benefit. This is due to the hard work and dedication of every person involved in our children’s welfare. A committed family, a dedicated staff, an educational system with clear vision working together for our children—this not only defines our success, but also defines our community. As Chief School Administrator of Hampton Borough School, I sincerely thank you for all you do to help our children succeed.
Yours in education,
Joanna Hughes
